Hey community,

What can you do after a horrible season to clear your mind?

First games, I could only draw...not that bad but I was much higher rated than my opponents so it felt like a loss. Completely wierd, it was like I have forgotten how to win...no explanation for this.

The last games, I wanted to prove it for me and I made a lot of theory, played online-chess, played apps, did really a lot...result: I have never played so bad and lost the last ones.

Maybe I was too motivated and lost focus - but what shall I do now? Just going on? Make a break? Change gamestyle?

What are you doing in such cases? Iam a little bit afraid that I overract and this nightmare goes on...

thx for advices!

Stop chess.

Go hiking in some beautiful countryside. Take in the natural beauty, walk yourself to exhaustion. Get a good night's sleep, think about your chess playing then. Re-focus! Remember, the game is to be enjoyed! If you are not enjoyong it at present, take some time off until you do. It may be a week, a month, a year, or a decade only time will tell. Best of luck!

analyze your games to see your faults

After a bad cricket season I make an effort to be fitter for the next season and then come back and bowl faster. After a bad TV season I give it another chance during the first episode of the next, then decide if I want to continue watching. After a bad chess season I go away and cry because I have no idea what that means.

Focus on your errors and improve on why you did these errors and what you could do instead

Take a break, go out and drink with friends, don't worry about it so much.

Your ability to play well will either return (likely so as there is no reason to assume it has permanently vanished for no reason) or it won't. Even if it will not return, worrying about it will not help.
