What Chess Computer Playing Program Allows You to Practice One Opening

I want to play against a computer, practicing one opening variation over and over.  Which computer playing program/software allows me to do this?

I know that Chess Position Trainer has the ability to build repertoires and and I can test myself against, but that's not a chess playing engine right?  I want an engine that will play against me when I choose to devitate from the lines that I have input into the opening book.

All the times I play against a chess software, I have to start a new game repeatedly until it plays the line I want it to play.  Is there a chess software that allows me play one line over and over game after game?  I have no idea how to do this.  Thanks for any help that can be provided!

HIARCS is what I use but there may be others as well.  You have a choice of around 100 of the most common openings.  You can play against the computer full strength or "dumbed down".  Around $50 for a download; reputedly it's the engine Vishy Anand prefers to play against because of its' human like play.

You can just create your own opening book with only variations you want engine to play

Yeah, there are probably many chess GUIs that will let you create an opening book with only the variation you're interested in. I use the free Arena more than other GUIs, and you can do that in Arena with little work.

The general steps are:

1) Create the line on the board that you want the engine to follow. (First click on the Edit button so you can make moves for both sides.)

2) Click on the "PGN" menu, then "Save Current Game in PGN Format". (You can call it something like "MySpecialBook.pgn".

3) Click on the "Book" menu, then "Manage", then the "Data" tab, then "New".

4) Give the new book a file name with an abk file extension, like "MySpecialBook.abk", then save it to the Books folder.

So now you have a new abk book with nothing in it. You now have to import your special line into this new, empty book.

5) Go to the "Book" menu, "Manage", "Import" tab, then select your "MySpecialBook.pgn" file in the "Import PGN-file" box, then click on the "Start" button to import the pgn file into the abk book.

6) Now go to the "Data" tab and tick the box for "Use Arena main book".

Now your new book should be loaded, and your engine should use it when you play a game against it.

Thank you all for your suggestions!  I will try them all out.

Lucas chess. google it. it lets you set an opening, but unlike most other programs you don't just skip to a certain position in an opening, you have to play up til that point as well. its set up a little strangely, but has a lot of neat features, and is free.
