What did it take for you to get your title?

Point is the forum topic is about titled players and u don't get no title or understanding of how good you are over the board unless you play in tournaments. Any one who wants to become a master of anything has to know the governing body behind it and the rules of the game for real competition.

That's all well, and good. All I posted in here that got Reb going, was when I explained to Orangehonda that the poster he was quoting asked EVERYBODY what their FIDE rating was, not just him. Even me, who has none.

Woodshover ..... why do you even feel compelled to respond in a thread addressed to titled players ?

Please reread the thread name and explain why are you here ?

Other untitled people did too, so why are you just griping at me?

You started it, smart A. You're proof you don't have to be smart to be good at chess.

Reb be nice to the beginner pls. I don't think they intend any offence to you.

You know i don't have f.i.d.e. rating either actually. I have an Australian one or had one anyway. FIDE tournaments seem to cost a lot more on average so i never bothered.

I don't doubt that knowledge is a vital component in someones skill level though. That's the only reason i can think of why a kid could beat a seasoned master.

orangehonda

I have a FIDE rating, but it's under 2000... I think long time FIDE players would do a double take at that... FIDE + under 2000 does not compute... but they let in all sorts now Wink

orangehonda

Heh, that's true.  You could argue any chess study is a "waste" I guess it's all perspective.  If I enjoy it it's not useless at least.  (Not sure I enjoy it :p)

orangehonda

After (if) I ever make master, I'll drop chess and become a wealthy poker player... a good plan for the future Wink
