What do Points mean, please?

I now have 700 points. Woohoo! Well done to me. Yay!

But I have no idea how I got them or what they mean.

Help!

It determines how active you are on the site forums.

Ta. Can I trade them in for a flight to New York? I'd settle for Paris.

Wow! Just checked. You have 3,172 points! Star. Makes mine a bit measly.

They are redeemable for...NOTHING.

So you have that.

If you reach 1 billion points you will get 1 billion points.

You get one point for every post in a forum, blog, and other comments too. However, other than this, they mean nothing. Points simply show how "active" the member is in the chess.com community. happy.png

You get an achievement for reaching 1000 points.

Prizes! Points mean prizes. Everyone knows that!

When the site first started up, I believe you could redeem them for a chess.com t-shirt!

That's one of the measurements I don't get here. Basically it doesn't say much. By how much is a guy with 3.5K active compared to another folk with 1.6K? It's kind of a useless unit of measure. Number of forum threads initiated, forum replies, blog articles... that'd say much more.

Smositional

The points show how much this member contributes to the chess community. Just divide the number of points by the number of days you are here on chess.com and you get a useful metric.

You also get 5 points for a blog post, I believe. Kind of mixed up everything frustrated.png

Really? ok, I had to blog post which I deleted. So the number is not accurate.

Yep, I noticed it last week after I posted an article (I hadn't been in the forum for a while). Almost sure it's 5 points.

Smositional

Yeah, I agree with you. The points itself don't say much. There has to be more categories but then again I wonder what would be the point of that? wink.png

I am playing someone. I won't say his name but he's the only one I am playing if you want to find out. Who has 0 (Zero) points. I would have thought that would be almost impossible. Shouldn't you get a point for just being here?

Ha! Smositional. Cute joke.

Pulpofeira

Good old Tom used to have more points than profile views.

Monarquico

I know people here who are quite obssesed with the points they have. And they just start threads and post inane comments just to gain some points. These people is addicted to points, they consider them a speedometer of their 'status'. Beware of these junkies of the points!

Heather_Stephens

 That's sad.
