What do you do when waiting for your turn?

Hi everyone, I was just wondering what it is that people do whilst they are waiting for it to become their move.

Although I like the forums, I scan those quickly and then move on. I am not keen enough to study the game, so don't do that. Sadly I end up opening another window on my lap top and working whilst I wait for a move......That can't be right...any useful tips?

Now my wife tells me that multi tasking is something that only ladies can do!

Besides hitting the page refresh obsessively, I scan the forums, swap to my company's intranet site whenever anyone with a tie walks by, and do the occasional bit of work that falls my way.

I've actually gotten big on reading people's blogs. Unfortunately I would say it's about 1 in 10 that seem worth reading, but the occasional treasure is worth the hunt.

TheHappyFatVegan

scan the forums especially the open discussion one

I surf the web for whatever

sometimes I watch a show then check back

sometimes I'll send messages to the person I am playing

think about how I could be doing useful things like the yardwork or cleaning up the house instead of playing chess

etc...

sometimes I'll come back and post more mindless postings to occupy my time too...like now!!!

or make something to eat

or drink

TheHappyFatVegan

LasUnicorn

if i'm in the mood to play chess, i will look through my current games and work out possible strategies and different possible moves (i actually enjoy analyzing different variations and the like while i am trying to find the best possible combinations and so on).

i'll also sometimes play some live chess as well (although i tend to not do to well in the blitz games at the moment).

i am always looking through the forums/articles/blogs. i still have a lot to learn.

One option is to play live chess

Taxi

I dont know much about "live Chess"...How does that work?

TheHappyFatVegan

live chess is faster based....you can set the time limit for like 5 minutes to make your moves

some call it blitz chess i believe as well

I tried it a few times and did not care for it

It's called live chess because you have to stay online to play until the game is over or you will time out

write poems, change diapers, eat, sleep, drink, have sex, go to work, read,  wrestle with the obsession that haunts my mind due to the horror of my latest blunder...

You're on the mark...Play live chess or open another browser and do what you did before you were engrossed in this stuff. You can't lose your grip on the rest of the world playing chess nonstop, so why not. Watch movies or listening to music on the media player is a good sidekick. I have a mame system that plays old coin-op arcades with perfect emulation. Chess here, Pac-Man there ...can't get bored. There's plenty of other chatrooms to talk about other things besides the queen's gambit too.

I go to the hot topics, and see if I can write simething really really stupid somewhere!!!!!
