What do you say one move from mating your opponent!
I am pretty new and don't have a lot of games under my belt. On one of my earlier games I was one move away from checkmate but used the wrong piece to mate and ultimatly lost. I was crazy ahead in that game but lost anyway.
I'm unsure of what online ettiquate is, there was one game where I was kind of winning but the opponent didn't make a move and time was running out so I chatted a word of encouragment, because I make blunders. They made a snarky comment and a move.
I checked in the next move but they never returned which was apparently a win for me. I was glad cause I need wins but they still had a few moves and I could have made a mistake.
On another game I blundered and fought it out to almost the bitter end. I resigned when it was obvious it was a waste of time and I was going to lose. Was I out of line in continuing?
I am unsure of what the proper ettequate is, I just keep playing because people make blunders, unless it is so obvious I get bored pretending. If someone wants to also play to the bitter end it's fine with me. It's not like I am glued to the monitor or phone.
I am involved in a game right now and it doesn't look like the opponenet is coming back. There are still a few moves left, maybe more. I'm just not that good and you can always learn something.
I picked up some bad habits from friendly games I played a long time ago, and by playing computers where you can take back moves and play other moves. I think I'm getting better at avoiding really obvious mistakes, and I don't play computers anymore, it's really not as fun and now I found this site.
So I guess there is a page on proper ettiquate?

That is good a question. Playing to the bitter end, or resigning, are both correct, and it comes down to a matter of preference. Both pathways have advantages and downsides. There is no such a thing in the chess etiquette that states which one is better. That is the reaosn why they give you a choice anyways. If you want to play to the bitter end, do it, if you want to resign, do it. Just remember that you have to attain to whatever consequence comes with said decision.
As for playing computers with which you can take back moves, it may be okay if you are a very beginner and you are not platying for competition but rather for learning. However, you are right, it is a bad habit. Now that you have joined the chess.com community, don't do it again.
In the case of Scholars mate accepted I would tell my opponent that they were stupid.
Once, I was playing against a beginnner in a tournament. Before the match, a friend and I were talking about the Scholars' Mate, and the beginner asked me 'what is that?'. So I taught her wat it was. Ironically enough, I played the Scholars' Mate against her just so I could see how she would counter it, but she didn't. She fell for the Scholars' Mate even though I told her different ways to protect it. Now...

What do you say one move from mating your opponent!
I normally just ask if she would like desert before heading back to my place.

If she would like desert? Well, personally, I do not like to be in the desert. My home is way more comfortable and less hot.
Sorry! I know that was so stupid, but I just had to say it!

"game over please insert new coin" , i like how it has humour and references arcade computer games but i think silence and post game is best for the comment as its unfair to distract your opponent ,
if we have been chatty all game though i might prior to the mate but only if its guaranteed no sense warning them if they have an escape

Am enjoying this.... Good match
