Hello all, I want to talk about prize money in the tournaments around the world here.

So recently I went to a tournament in Moscow , it was an open tournament not FIDE rated or anything, anyone welcome to join as long as you pay starting fees.

So let's concentrate on the financial matter here.

To just participate you must pay 200₽( $3.36) and if you get more then half points you will get half money back.

Now if you wish to be applicant for the prize money you must pay starting fees 400₽( $6.72) , same rules apply if you win more then half you will get half the money.

1st place prize money 1300₽( $21.84)

2nd place 1200₽( $20.16)

3Rd place 1000₽ ( $16.8)

20 people showed up.

Out of 20 people weakest people were A class players , around 4 people

Then around 6-8 Expert players weakest being 19 hundred something

And the rest 22 hundred something players with around 3 players 2300- 2500rating.

Time limit were 3|2 increment.

I participated in it and UNFORTUNATELY I was so so so close to getting my half money back I needed one more draw ONLY! And I could get my half money back.

I took 9th place with scoring 7.5 points.

1st place score 12.0

2nd score 11.0

3rd 11.5

4th 10.0, next person also 4th,9.5, 9.5

TPR means Tournament Performance Rating.

Yeah I know it means Tournament Performance Ratings, but what exactly does it mean?

What's the beef?  We have "Friday Night Quads" at a club near me where three standard rated games (USCF allows 30 min. games to be rated as "standard") are played among 4 players, each player putting in $5, the winner keeping $15 and the house keeping $5.  In your tournament, you got to play more games and the prize money was spread out amoung a greater percentage of players.
