what do you want with chess?
When I was young, I wanted to use chess as a laboratory to understand cognition.
Now that I lived and learned, I think that physical martial arts (MMA) is a much better model to understand physical and intellectual abilities.
The model I use to understand all forms of learning, physical and intellectual, came from the video games Karate Champ, Budokan, WWE Here Comes the Pain, and Warcraft 1.
There's been studies that have shown the connection between chess and neuroplasticity, meaning you become mentally sharper and smarter.
You will be more agile if you also play Chinese chess. That was how I got started in Vietnam in 1979, when I made my first Chinese chess set with discarded bottle caps and a brown paper bag.
I know that the West is all popular now.
Like in many stories and fairy tales, the answer you seek was sitting at home all along. That is true.
Play Chinese chess also. It's right there at home.
