in a puzzle,  you know there must be an advantage, or a nice combination that wins material; so, you spend time looking for the win.

in a real game, no one tells you there is an awesome combo; and you missed an opportunity.  It's up to your chess recognition to see the possibilities.  experienced players recognize the patterns and covert the advantage.

It takes a long time for certain study to set in to your skillset. You have to be very patient with a game like chess. Sometimes after you study the game for a month or to daily your brain becomes less receptive since you are burned out.

Just be patient and keep playing and looking over your games. You haven't even been a member for that long. Don't beat yourself up and don't be in a rush.

"Think of it this way. Imagine two people go to the gym 5 days a week and stay there for the same amount of time. One of them focuses on proper form, does a set amount of reps, looks at what he can improve upon, and gradually increases the weight that he is lifting."

This is true but chess can be deceptive. Even if you study correctly, sometimes it takes a long time for the results to show.
