What does high draw percentage mean?

I know what you mean...

Last tournament I went to, between rounds, played some blitz for fun.

I CRUSHED these two guys in blitz... and then my last two rounds were against them... and I lost both of those games...

I don't mind playing against "wild attacking" players. They need only a little encouragement to over-extend and then get trashed by accurate defense.

My "Kids, don't try this at home!" game is the prime example of that theme.

Honestly those people are my favorite to play against in blitz - just my style, which I call "fishing". Bait and punish, to use a smash term. They usually burn all their time trying to break through, and sometimes they do. But then they lose on time.

It's called fishing... because you're the worm.

oh wait, I misspelled it.

"phishing" is the right term.

To be honest I Saw some people playing blitz a week ago during my otb... but since it was covid, I didn't go play with them. Also they seemed like a tight knit group and didn't like outsiders. They also played in the Under 1400 section, so in my view I would have loved to crush them, flex on them, then leave with an upturned nose, but they aren't worth my time.

Also I was just plain shy.

Ok... I will play for 5 days...

Well today was day one. I'll play at least 20 a day.

If allergies stay a problem my goal will be to be over 2100 at the end of day 5 heh.

(That also means the draw stats wont be very useful tongue.png)

allergies?

llama47

Yeah, they make you tired, and allergy medication also makes you tired so...

Well today I felt fine and my rating went down a little so... I don't have any excuses heh.

Combined today and yesterday I played ~70 games, and for them my draw percentage was 10% so that seems to be holding pretty steady.

Some of my openings are pretty drawish, but for example I'd rather play 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bb5 and have an equal position than play some dragon mainline a 10 year old has memorized to move 20. That just doesn't feel like chess.

sndeww

That's why I play closed sicilian. If you like tactics how about a slow maneuvering game?

llama47

2.Nc3 is a nice move thumbup.png

Tactics aren't my favorite, but I'm probably pretty close to 50/50 now. I don't mind either type of game.

sndeww

Yeah, but when I look at open sicilian games I just blanch. I'd rather be in control of the game, thank you.

llama47

Yeah, I'm not comfortable in main line sicilian positions... as either color.

To be fair, most of them involve extremely theoretical attacks that players memorize for a million moves and have played over and over.

sndeww

Same. My last dragon game was when I was around 2100... I got to the starting tabiya, had a panic moment on whether to play the Chinese dragon or not, Played a sideline that wasn't either, lost a pawn after two moves, and my opponent missed five forced checkmates and I took a free rook.

Then he resigned.

llama47

Gross lol happy.png

sndeww

funny thing, I saw all those checkmates... it didn't really make me feel any better about myself.

llama47

It's always annoying when you see ways your opponent can win and they miss them.

Even if you win in the end, you can't feel good, because you were losing to an idiot... that's how I feel anyway tongue.png
