What does high draw percentage mean?

Yeah, I'm not comfortable in main line sicilian positions... as either color.

To be fair, most of them involve extremely theoretical attacks that players memorize for a million moves and have played over and over.

We won't name any names, though.

The game you like to share a lot, I don't know how theoretical the lines were, because I don't play them.

But I remember pfren commenting something about how it's well known that on move 14 blah blah blah... so maybe it was, I don't know.

I know the first time I faced the Moeller OTB I was out of book on move 8, and managed to find the main line all the way to move 15 on my own (which wasn't nearly enough, I lost, but I was proud of doing that much)... so maybe you found it OTB too, who knows.

Pfren made a comment about move 20. We left known book lines (Sznapik vs Ljangov, Sandomeirtz 1967) on move 28.

So, to me, that's pretty boring.

I once screwed up a move order in the French, and my opponent sacrificed 3 minor pieces to hunt down my king. We both calculated a long time on every move, and it was an exciting game.

But if you sacrifice anything, and it's someone else's move, then as exciting it is for observers, it's not very exciting for you during the game, right?

blueemu

If no improvement was possible for my opponent's play, that might be true.

But since my prepared improvement was on Black's move 28, I had to weather 28 moves by my opponent, knowing that he might spring his own prepared improvement at any moment, thus making my own prep worthless. It was probably more tense for me than for a spectator.

llama47

Well, ok.

And I know it's sort of splitting hairs... obviously I memorize moves and common ideas too.

llama47

Well, 3 of my last 6 games were draws... one of them doesn't really count, but the other two sort of answer the question of this topic I think.

The answer might be that I trust my ability to win endgames but it's not always possible in short time controls.

For example here I'm a pawn up, so I offer a queen trade, because in an OTB game I'd win this no problem because white can eventually make two outside passed pawns.

And some of my opening prep leads to winning endgames that I can't necessarily win in blitz.

llama47

It's a simple opening strategically. Opposite side castling, then use a standard attack. It's a good opening for a wide range of players, but I don't like it.

I don't trust the weak d5 square.

13 out of my last 15 games were losses. Hm.

llama47

Hey, no fair, only I'm supposed to lose that much lol.

Beat my 100 points in one hour record.

llama47

For 3 minute games that's a tough record to break for sure.

Well, last game I had 0:15 vs my opponent's 1:30 plus I'm feeling dizzy from allergies... and I won because it was a miracle, so I'm going to stop playing and sit on 2200 tongue.png

I got the chess book I wanted to read, so I'll probably be doing that, and who knows, maybe I'll increase my draw % even further lol.

I played 167 games this month, and drew 12.6%
