What does high draw percentage mean?

Including a wholesome draw by llama after obvious mouse slip.

You're a better man than me. I'd sooner be caught dead than giving my opponent a draw like that. The one time that did happen to me I refused the draw and went on to lose while up a peice sad.png

I was a bit tilted having lost a series of ~3 games recently, so I really wanted to win... so I did pause and think about declining the draw lol.

If they hang a piece, then no deal, they can go **** themselves.

But clearly he tried to capture the bishop so... yeah, I'll do it in that case only.

That was very sporting.  Good on you.

speaking of good sportsman draws - my opponent gave me one in 10min rapid today. clutched a win against him in round 1, soundly outplayed him in round 2 but hung a rook. I outplayed him in round 3 and declined his fourth rematch request tongue.png

Well, last game I had 0:15 vs my opponent's 1:30 plus I'm feeling dizzy from allergies... and I won because it was a miracle, so I'm going to stop playing and sit on 2200

I got the chess book I wanted to read, so I'll probably be doing that, and who knows, maybe I'll increase my draw % even further lol.

I played 167 games this month, and drew 12.6%

speaking of feeling dizzy... I don't feel so good. How many games have I played today?

there's more

As of this post you've played 41 games today... and your rating is XX99

That's always an oof.

ponz111

lama you did not answer my question?

personally I always play for a win--even the 2 times I had Black v s a GM. [why let a GM off with a draw??]

llama47

I don't play for a draw, and I don't use attacks or opening theory as crutch either.

That's the language I'd use to advocate for my way of playing.

Radrook

Mine is 18 percent draws in rapid.

You've got me beat. Seems I'm pretty stuck on 12% for whatever reason.

Not that a lot of draws is necessarily a good thing.

llama47

Yeah, it's probably some combination of being better at endgames (which is nice), and going for calm positions more often, leading to less winning/losing chances overall (which is not as nice).

bet you play something like Nf3 d4 e3 c4 tongue.png

I play 1.e4

The opening choices that affect my draw rate the most are probably the fact that I play 3.Bb5 against any sicilian... in 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 lines that's fine (it was played at the last world championship) but against 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bb5 it's pretty drawish and some sicilian players will roll their eyes at you so to speak.

As black I've switched to a Nimzo / Bogo combo, but if they play a calm line, I don't try to prevent it. Some g3 lines can be really dull for example. My philosophy is if white wants a boring game you can't stop them, and if I draw as black it's not a tragedy.

sndeww

Ah. I have a "win at any cost mentality" which usually leads me to "blunder" my rooks. (they are actually blunders, though...)

llama47

I've found some ways to spice up a Ruy Exchange though. I play like this as black
