Once, I was that 8 year-old, and, it did NOT go well at the beginning, but then I started LIKING chess! Then I actually started getting GOOD at chess! Now I am almost 1700 rated in my country , got into the top 10 in my section, andI am the 2nd highest rated (in my section!) IN THE COUNTRY!! I will leave the rest of my story for you to discuss!
