I always felt that unless a game or a sport demaqnded physical strenth,we girls are on an equal footing against any opponent, male or female. Look 4 yrs ago, Kelly Kulik won a major tournament in bowling against 4 men. Today all the rage is for Mone Davis in the little league world series. If a woman ever won the chess world championship....the world will be a better place to live. yours truly ....Lana

Hmm, I'm not sure why. I guess psychologically a woman would be able to see a female champion as a reason to believe in herself, but then again, she's not you. Everyone's an individual and you know best what you're good at.
My point though is that there isn't anything inherently better about a woman being world champion, or a man being world champion for that matter. In the same way that there isn't anything inherently better about a blue-eyed person being world champion than a brown-eyed person being world champion. I just care about the chess.
Perhaps you mean it would calm the misogynists down, which is a fair point. And I'm sure a female world champion would love to give the people who discouraged her a big "I told you so."

what I would like to know is why are men and women segrated in the first place? Chess is not a physical game, therefore is women who have comparable ratings to male IMs ,should compete in any and all tournaments.
