why does everyone think this guy is cheating, can someone give me reasons...

If any of the reports are accurate you have to be kidding.  2xs he was doing very well in a tournament and possibly could have won the prize money.  Besides the prize money he could have helped substantiate the fact he was not a cheat.  Yet he refused to take off his shoes or his shirt.

In one event he agreed to a search in one round even offering to take off his pants.  But then in another round when they found that something was taped to his chest he refused to even take off his shirt.

What could cause this sudden change of heart?

Why would someone in the very same event agree to a strip search and even offer to take off his pants in one round suddenly become very modest and refuse to take off his shirt the next?

The evidence is overwhelming the correlation of the moves is just icing.

What if superking500 wasn't trolling?

Pat_Zerr

What if there were no hypothetical situations?

TheGrobe

Well technically there aren't.

What if Ivanov is a time traveller???

You can't disprove it, after all ...

He can't be a time traveller, because time travelling is cheating.

TheGrobe

Now where does it say that in the rules?

Even if time traveling is cheating, Ivanov is a cheater so I don't see how Ivanov couldn't be a time traveller...

He chose to enter a sport knowing the rules about searches before a match.  He chose to not take his shoes off.  The is higly suspicious behavior and not the quirk of a man with smelly feet.  He has not been caught red handed and so has a chance to redeem himself.  time will tell

He was caught red handed twice.

well then he is most certainly a cheater, eos

The refusal to take off his shoes, the absurd reason advanced and his withdrawal from chess is tantamount to an admission.

Exactly how he managed to use some device in his shoes to give himself access to computer analysis within tournament playing areas I don't know.

One answer to the OP's question is that in that case he would have been happy to have his shoes (and smelly socks) examined.

What if I won the lottery tomorrow?

it works probably like in this job offer:

(the bad thing is, that 5 programmers did propose)

interesting is, that the GM who accused Ivanov of cheating, put of his shoes first as a gesture. Ivanov had just to follow his example.
