I will try it if you will send me a chess board with 100 squares
What If We Take CHESS to The Next Level by Improving It?!
Back then when I was young, (that was a couple of weeks ago) a PROMI hi-school student from the islands, I was one of the best chess players there is...Actually that is because you can count us in one finger. Chess is not a popular game where I was from. But when I moved to the city for my college studies; I found out that I am ONE of worst and clumsy players of my university.Yet, slowly I learn a lot of chess from my new friends. We call our club: The WoodPushers'.We ALL knew as chess players, how CHESS evolves as we play it today. One of my friends then, threw us an idea : what if we reinvent chess. The idea was met with sarcasm and ridicule because he is not one of the best players in our club. But we gave a second thought just to have fun. Some of us then dont like it because it is totally different kind of chess on unknown territories. But all the chess players: Masters and Pawns are all equal. The new chess board has 100 squares, there are two additional very strong pieces: the first one moves the combination of a BishopKnight and the second one moves the combination of a RookKnite...and two pawns right infront of each piece.Oh man!as it turns out, the weak players of conventional chess were the strongest on the NXTGenChess on our tournament. This happened 25 years ago. We dont try it again lately, if you dare: Will You Try It?
If you want to get away from conventional chess, without going to a bigger board, etc. there is someething called "Fischer Random Chess" or -- I think -- "Chess 960" where all the pieces on the back rank are randomly shuffled. You can shuffle one side and use that shuffle for both sides; or you can randomly shuffle both sides. If you own a Chronos Chess Clock there is a built in program that will randomly shuffle the pieces, all you need to do is set them up and play.
The advantage?!? You don't have to learn by heart a gazillion openings and opening theory, rather you need to learn opening principles and other tactics. It would also render chess engines moot since they are programed for "standard" chess.
I myself am thinking of dipping my toe into the FRC waters both as an experiment with it, just to see what its like, as well as a training aid for my "students" (ones 84 y.o., and the other 50-55+ y.o).

With a 64 square board I very much like progressive chess.
White gets 1 move Black gets 2 moves White gets 3 moves and so on.
If you check it ends your moves. Such games often end very shortly.
It teaches you to think ahead and also to be orginal. Very good game and I like it better than real chess.
