"The problem is... whenever I log in, a GM is someone who is trying to cheap someone out of a game by not running out of time."
No-they think fast and make good moves, but they could make mistakes. Moving fast also prevents them from losing on time.

no, they really are just making moves and who ever runs out loses
Yeah, blitz chess is just whoever moves faster. That's why ratings are so unstable and you can go from 1000 rating to 2000 rating in just a few days all depending on how fast you move.
"no, they really are just making moves and who ever runs out loses"
Fine. I believe you. Once my friend beat a national master in bullet chess (1|0) ... on time.
Edit: my friend's rating was about 1200, and the NM was about 2000.
Anyway, if you're not familiar enough with chess to be able to pre-move every move to a win when you're up a lot of material then you need to be playing longer time controls.
I mean, if it takes you 10-20 seconds to identify all the threats in the position then it really is a random game of who moves faster. What you might not know is strong players can identify 90% or more of the 1-2 move threats in 1 second or less.
I've played new players in blitz before... they burn a whole minute on the first 15 moves... it's literally impossible for them to win this way. Sometimes I just sac my queen and premove my rook back and forth and watch them flail around. Do that vs a GM and you'll be checkmated before you reach move 30.
gm is gamemaster, like a dungeon master
lol, i guess.
i am rellay trying to see, i guess being a NM here is like being a yahoo master of the 1 min matches
You are absolutely clueless. Blitz is not about who moves faster.
The better player you are in normal chess, the better you are at blitz.
GMs know a lot of openings. Which means they don't have to think during the opening stage. Their strategic understanding and calculating is very good. So they can find an easy attacking plan (even if it is not the best objectively, in blitz you need to attack so that you force your opponent to spend more time on the clock than you) and can calculate simple 2-3 moves combinations fast. Also, they know how to play endgames in general, and know concrete theoreticall positions as well. And on chess.com there is this premove option, which makes it easier to save time. (I was mainly talking about 5-5 min games)
I think GM stands for "genetically modified." Scientist have modified the DNA of certain fetuses so that they are born with extraordinary chess ability
True, but not like extraordinary chess ability. GM is short for general motors, a car company. GMO stands for genetically modified organism, such as using hormones and radiation, chemicals, etc. to modify a product (milk, corn, wheat, soybean, you name it.). GM also stands for gmail, (i.e. hi, have you got my gm?)
For me< I think of a GM as a real grand master
The problem is... whenever I log in, a GM is someone who is trying to cheap someone out of a game by not running out of time.
Say it aint so - being a grand master is just moving quick enough so you don t run out of time.
Is that reall chess?
