What is an 'centipawn' and how it's calculated ?

Hello everyone !

Today I was going through a chessbook in the library. I'm new to chess but I can understand chess notations. The book had a section of game analysis where I read the term 'centipawn'. The author was saying like - Morphy was 100 centipawns up or Tal was 43 centipawns down. What does this analysis notation means? Is it somehow related to +1 or -2.5 type notation that we come across while using stockfish?

My another question is how it's calculated ?? Is there any certain type of system to calculate it?

Enjoy your day and thanks for answering it!!

Everyone above is right, but to add to what they said, if you go to one of your past games and then go to the analysis, there will be a number to the top right of your screen, which is how many centipawns someone is up. If there is a plus sign before the number, like +0.65, that means white is ahead 65 centipawns, or 0.65 of a pawn, assuming the best move is played next. If it shows -0.35, it means that black is ahead 35 centipawns or 0.35 of a pawn assuming the best move is played next.
