White is better because black can't play 1. c4 as their first move.
What is better to play as White or Black ?

It is widely acknowledged that according to all of our current ways of analyzing chess, White has a small advantage over black. Here is one piece of evidence. According to chess.com's openings database the White win - Draw - Black win ratio of every game ever played on this site is 38.5% - 33.3% - 28.2%. This is with a sample of 2.982 Million games. That is enough objective evidence to show that white has a small advantage. If the game was perfectly even between black and white we would expect something like 33.3% - 33.3% - 33.3%

Modern chess engines evaluate between 5 and 100 mnps (million nodes per second) depending on the hardware the engine is running on. Imagine we had an engine that has 20000 mnps evaluating 60 * 60 * 24 * 364 * 20000000000 = 628992000000000000 positions a year it would take 15863588369070825211176088369070825211176 08836907082521117608836907082 52111760883690708252111760883690 years just to evaluate one position for each of the estimated 10**120 possible games by Shannon. This number uses an average game length of 40. But there are longer games. The longest game we know about lasted for 269 moves. But even this is not much compared to 5900 estimated by several mathematicans. Of course, here are moves included like moving the queen to a square attacked by a pawn but it could be mate in one on the next move. The 2.982 million games you stated are like 1/10**113% of the number estimated by Shanon. In reality the number of possible chess games is at least 10**29241 according to a Monte Carlo simulation, and at most 10**34082 according to a calculation. Visit wismuth.com and search for chess/longest game for more detailled information. Additionally these games are not perfectly played. At perfect play we get every single game the same result. The database on chess.com is nice to have but useless in this context. Enlightens me if I am wrong. :_:

Can you guys stop claiming and start proving your points? Otherwise this discussion is useless as well.
Throughout the history of chess, there have been many different variations of how the game is played. Some play with a black piece or a white piece, depending on which side controls the center. In these games, there are several advantages to playing as white and disadvantages to playing as black. It is generally believed that players also have an advantage when they can see their opponent's pieces from a distance.
I think this thread will give you more information about this topic

"i win all the games i play with white while i win 50% of the games when i play with black"
++ Then you are the next World Champion.
Magnus Carlsen has 843 draws, 762 wins, 277 losses

I presume white as white always moves first, allowing some tactical advantages if the game is kept sharp.

First with white if we don't play 1) e4 or 1) d4 it is a bit like to play "with black".
Example 1) a3-e5 2) c4 I play more or less a Sicilian defense "with black". Other example 1) f4-d5 I play more or less a Dutch defense "with black".
Otherwise I prefer to play with black because to make it simple what I study or learn is related to my black opening repertoire against 1) e4 or 1) d4.
For example at the moment I'm watching a tournament of Chessmater's program in 5m+1s by move of AIs where they always plays 1.e4-d5 2.exd5-Qxd5 3.Nc3-Qa5 4.d4-c6 and apart from the suspense of who is going to win the tournament I learn because I take ideas that have been played by AI's ; example after 1.e4-d5 2.exd5-Qxd5 3.Nc3-Qa5 4.d4-c6 5.Nf3-Nf6 on 6.Bd3 I took the idea of playing 6... Na6 for Nb4 but I also took the idea that I can play too 6...Ff5 because in case of trade of Bishops my Queen is not badly placed in f5 (there are bad strategic moves that AIs can play but obviously I only take its good or interesting ideas )
WeakChessPlayedSlow hat geschrieben: It is. Since it's not even nearly a forced win, people still play. You know there are evaluations between -1 and +1, right? It is an undeniable fact that white starts the game with an advantage. Yes, it's only a slight advantage, but it is still an advantage. Anybody with half a brain could figure this out.
One of the following statements is true (there is no randomness):
1. When white plays perfectly, white wins.
2. When black plays perfectly, black wins.
3. When both are playing perfect, the result will be remis.
That engines say that white has an advantage doesn't mean it's true. You have to prove your statement. As long as you haven't done that, you shouldn't pretend to know the answer.
