For me, chess is an arguement. An exchange of ideas. And the pieces are our common language.

My train of thought during a game may be "So! You're telling me, you think your initiative will make up for that pawn you didn't bother to protect? Intetesting. What do you say, we test that hypothosis?"

I like this intuition!

I don't know. Everyone can play poker or chess, but not everyone can br good at it. Both require concentration and some physical shape for pros.

Chess is not a Olympic discipline (and likely never will be), so I don't know what you're referring to ...

MSC157

Formula 1, sport, but not Olympic one.

Chess is a recognized sport of the International Olympic Committee and international chess competition is sanctioned by the World Chess Federation (FIDE), which adopted the now-standard Staunton chess set in 1924 for use in all official games.

Chess is only a sport if you're a mathlete.  Americans, sheesh.

The definition of " Sport " ,as per the Oxford English dictionary ... " An activity involving physical exertion and skill , in which an individual or team compete against another or others for entertainment ".

Chess sometimes make one tired after playing a long game , or perhaps several blitz games etc. , due to the levels of concentration needed , so I feel in that sense , Chess is sometimes physically exerting , and does requires skill , so I would say Chess is a Sport.

It was only recognised as a sport so commentators could draw comparisons between other events and chess.  Truth:  there was a worlds strongest man competition where they compared lifting a rock above their heads as being "like chess out there".

These are games of dice, the symbol of fatality, which have nothing in common with chess.
