The International Olympic Committee considers chess a sport. Look on wikipedia.
what is chess!!!

God bless wilkpedia.... and the dozens (hundreds or even more...) of GM (some of the best mind who walked on this earth) who devoted their life to study and playing chess at the highest level.
Now we know they are considered sportsman and not some kind of eccentric lazy tramp who better find a good job instead. I've read too many silly things here "chess is like poker" ho my God.... I don't even want to comment on that.
Bobby Fisher was truly a great champion because he came alone from a country (USA) who barely know about chess (at least at his time) and fought basically alone against the entire former URSS team who had a better knowledge of what chess is all about (as a matter of fact chess were taught at school since early age).
I thought this was over but maybe I was wrong....
My first experience with chess ( back in 1973) ,I thought it to be a board game. Then I heard of a young guy named Fischer and my outlook changed. Of course Karpov came along and I thought it to be a sport ( man vs machine). Today at 51 years old I will never call it a board game. Any activity than makes you think out a strategy to win is a sport. Car racing, football, etc.... require someone to work on a winning plan. I vote a sport! A very enjoyable sport even when I lose because I learn from my mistakes.
it is a competetive cultral activity
