What is hyper modern style?

I've heard about a lot in chess but I have no idea? Can someone also explain the idea behind the fianchetto? I heard it was to get the bishop on the longest diagonal on the board and keep it safe from attacks but I feel like there's more to it than that and I don't seem to be completely comfortable with it because it feels like I don't get it 100% or maybe I am just over thinking things stupidly and just answered my own question.

Hyper modern style is a chess style that employs indirect control of the center as opposed occupying the center with pawns. An example would be the 'fianchetto' where the bishop can indirectly control the center along the the long diagonal.

Due to the complex and counter-intuitive play involved, many of the hyper modern greats such as Nimzowitsch and Reti were commonly known to use amphetamines before important matches. Nowadays the style is rare among chess masters, after the drug became regulated.
