Yes now hot people will start playing chess.. then it will give me a reason to go to tournaments in real life
What is Magnus Carlsens new career!!??

You're honestly saying that he shouldn't have taken a job because somebody else wanted the job? That's pretty much the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

I'm sure that the G-Star would have found an appropriate role for whatever model ended up working for them.
They develop the image first and get the model to fit it nt the other way around. He is the only one that fits the bill of young chess super hero.
Also, this may take chess to a larger audience. I say it could be a good thing for chess.

I don't think it's a sad day for chess. Carlen is still young, let him have his fun (and make tons of money). OK yeah seeing him in that jacket with gloves striking a pose made me laugh out loud -- but I don't think any less of his games. Even if he's ranked #1 in the world, he's still an individual with other interests.

If this led to him getting some acting rolls that would be awesome for chess publicity. Carlsen doesn't seem to have much of a personality, but actors like Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise, and to some extent look alike Matt Dameon can act about as well as a piece of cardboard but somehow they keep getting rolls. If Carlsen even had a minor part in a major movie that would be so cool... I actually hope that's where this is all headed now

Magnus Carlsen + Liv Tyler... can you imagine children -- his brains + her looks = divinity. His looks + her brains = fail.
It's all about the co-workers people. At the end of a long work day, he will be headed out on the town with hot female fashions models. You would be a moron to turn this gig down.

You know what's ironic? Top female players have been making extra money by modelling for decades (Alexandra Kosteniuk is the perfect example). So how is male modelling "shameful", "debasing", "beneath him", or "sad for chess"?

It's always been acceptable for women to be sexy -- but if a man wants to be sexy it somehow ruins his image. Obviously sexist against men tsk tsk.

Oh, baloney! It would be equally shameful for a woman of Carlsen's talent to be wasting her time modeling.
There's nothing shameful about modeling, and it's not a waste of time.

Yes, he should devote every waking moment to chess regardless of what he actually wants to do with his time.

Just being goofy.
Talent or not he's still a person with other interests. There's nothing vulgar about modeling, just the stigma that the people trying so hard to look like mannequins have the brains to match.

I think in about five years he'll be a great villain in a 007 movie.
"Checkmate, Mr. Bond..."
lol, good line.
I've always though of Topalov as the player who's most like a James Bond villain, but you're right Magnus has a good look for it too. I'd love to see a top chess player break into movies... but I guess it'd never happen beyond a cameo. The time it takes to shoot would detract too much from their professional chess careers.
This is really a shame. He shouldn't debase himself like this.
You mean he shouldn't ruin his geeky chess-player image by being hot?
Well, a job that requires one to act as a living mannequin, struting on stage like a trained monkey... that seems beneath one of the most talented chess players in the world. There are thousands of models available who would die for (speaking figuratively, of course) that opportunity. I don't think Carlsen was wise to take that opportunity from them.
They will use his image to shift products. His image is a very young amazing chess talent. I really don't think that there are any models on the books that filled that role.
