This average doesn't account for trolls. Anyone with an Elo lower than Martin's has to be a troll. Just looking at the lessons this website gives you should get you to at least well above what this website calls the "average."
The actual average is more like 1000.

That is not accurate. There are plenty of people that play chess that fall well below 500 rating. The same thing happens in OTB Chess as well.
