What is the best mode to play chess (other than standard)?

Many of you like to play different kinds of chess other than the normal version. Chess.com offers lots of these, but what is actually the best for you to learn chess?

You are always welcome to comment down below about your opinions, but I think the real answer is found by filtering.

4 Player Chess on chess.com is a fun type of chess, but you have to think other ways. You might not want to move that pawn you do on the front...some dude from the side could get you. This is a good addition, but it's not the best way to learn chess without doing the standard, which gets boring once in a while. If you want a kind of chess that is 4 players, I would recommend Doubles (Bughouse)

Speaking of Bughouse, is that the best one? Maybe. It is still set as standard, but you can always block a check with a piece that your partner gave you. That is not very logical in standard chess, so let's cross that out

King of the Hill: King of the Hill is a good way, but it's not very good. You do not want to get your king out in the open at the beginning of the game. You want him safe and tucked in until the end.

Crazyhouse: You can kind of "cheat" with the pieces you captured. When your opponent should checkmate you, you can easily block with one of your pieces, causing rage. Rage should not be made in chess.

Chess960: This is a good type of chess, but you should not move the same way you do in Chess960 than in Standard. Chess960 is good for advanced players who want to do a more challenging way to start the game and to think differently. But this is not a good chess mode for beginners, who need to learn how to start the opening properly.

What about 3 Check? Personally, I think 3 Check is the one. This kind of chess encourages you to check the king, while protecting your pieces from harm. Of course, you can always comment down below your ideas of what is the best type of chess.

Crazyhouse would be a good alternative to play, totally different than Bughouse where its lack of control over your teammates board which introduces randomness. Crazyhouse emphasize on tactical strategy much more than standard chess.

Another good mode I think would be chess960 aka Fischer Random Chess, promotes flexibility and creativity without rely so much on memorising opening.

I absolutely love crazyhouse, it is one of my favorite chess variants.

I agree with Jessie. Chess960 seems like a great skill builder as there is less memorizing and more understanding the ideas of the opening.

By the way JessieWong, are there books in Chinese about Shogi?

Are there books in Chinese about Go? Are there books in Chinese about Xiangqi?

Crazyhouse. Let's not talk about Crazyhouse, it's the same thing as Bughouse.

the most fun for me is probably 4player chess or bughouse/crazyhouse

I think slow enough chess is valid because it allows you to do due process and not compromise too much.

Very fast chess controls (like blitz and bullet) aren't real chess.

Stuff like rapid or longer is respectable.

I know.   In every variant,  including international chess (what FIDE regulates and plays)  the bigger issue is what time control you opt to play rather than which variant.  All variants have something going for them and are all good at learning chess and things very near to chess.  (related skills)  What's more important however is playing a higher and righter time control rather than the kiddie stuff.

I am back!

Chess 960 can build your skills in Chess, thinking hard in a mixed-up position. However, the bad point of this is that it shouldn't be how you set up the board and also your pieces should not move in Standard as they move in Chess 960. Crazyhouse is good, but the thing is that you can "cheat" with the pieces you captured.
