What is the best opening?

For a long time I've been wondering what the best opening is. I realize it's all opinion, but I just want your feedback on what you're favorite opening is. I like to just open with (as white) e4, then over the next few moves I usually play Bc4, Nc3, Ne3. If my opponent plays the Scandinavian defense after e4 I always accept. Whenever I see the Sicilian defense I usually go for Sicilian defense closed. There are some acceptations, but this is my general opening. Almost the same thing just reversed for when I play black. What do you play?

There is no "Best opening"...

There are only opening preferences and different openings have been made by different masters because they thought that those openings were the best for them, however others may disagree with that master as they may not be the best with that specific opening just to give an example.

Honestly the game of chess is built on preference, it always has been so there will never be a "best opening" outright by the majority. There are openings that give better chances for wins, but this doesn't mean they are great openings as they just give chances, and this is just the preference of the engines, but even so they are preferences.

So the point being there is no best opening, a person will like an opening based on preference and what they like more based on their style, understanding, comfortablility and familiarity and chess personality.
