What is the most moved piece in chess?

Just not when beginners are playing, right?

Rating or ability would make a difference, yes. Beginners, for some reason, tend to move the most powerful pieces the most. It would be interesting to find out just how much. I would imagine beginners, in short games (as well as longer games) probably move their queen more than intermediate or advanced players. In proportion to the other pieces at least.

So it seems likely that short games will have pawns move the most BUT when it comes to beginners, that ratio probably drops a bit.

My thirst though was pawns, but tbh, now I'm considering the king because of all the wild goose chases in the endgames. With absoloute beginners, a rule is 'when you don't know what to move, move a pawn', so it's pawns for them.

Yes. Someone else also mentioned the king. Because in the endgame, it's always being attacked. I still say rooks are moved the most, or near the most. But for the same reason. Endgame. In shorter games pawns and bishops and knights are moved more.

Agreed. I think Rook is the correct answer for GM level players.

For GMs, either rook or king.
