For me:
K: Also same King
Q: Prime Minister
B: Minister
R: Tower
N: Horse
P: Soldier
K: Rei (King) R (sometimes i get confused with the puzzle's solutions)
Q: Dama (Lady) D
B: Bispo (Bishop) B
N: Cavalo (Horse) C
R: Torre (Tower) T
P: Peão (Pedestrian)
In Brazil, we call the picies:
K: King (Rei)
Q: Lady (Dama)
B: Bishop (Bispo)
N: Horse (Cavalo)
R: Turret or tower (Torre)
P:Pawn (Peão)
and the picies letters follow the portuguese word:
K -> R
Q -> D
B = B
N -> C
R -> T
P = P
I live in Finland but speak swedish. The pieces are all the same here as in Sweden except the knight, we call it knekt. It's actually quite odd since the word "knekt" would be translated to soldier. And to be more specific, a foot soldier. Not someone riding a horse. When comparing it to the finnish pawn, "soturi", which means solidier these two pieces have almost got the same name.
I have read that in Mongolia one of the pieces is a camel.
Is this true?
Up to now - and until I refresh my tables again - the only camel was the "bishop" in India.
I had to search a bit and ...In Mongolia the "Bishop" is "temee" and guess what:
...
Yes, it's a camel !
I have heard a weird set of names for the pieces. They are the following:
K: Cathedral
Q: Cathedral
B: Missle
R: Castle
N: Trojan Horse
P: Bell Tower
In Spanish, I have also heard the bishop called "Alfil" which has obvious Arabic roots - it means "vizier" or "sorcerer"....basically, the bishop is a court wizard
