What is the relationship between IQ and chess ?

Not always a close correlation. My tested IQ was 148, 99.93 percentile, and my rating here is pretty mediocre. No doubt my strengths in varieties of intelligence tested are verbal and abstract reasoning, and I’m weakest in spatial comprehension and pattern recognition. So I’m a good lawyer but not much of a chess player. Great chess players possess some very special kind of intelligence that may not apply to other endeavors and I can’t define it.
