I think the WORST opening is the Domino Defense!

(For the title I meant your opinion lol)

that  is one bad knight placement lol

For white, I think the Grob is the worst, because of how weakening it is. For black, depends on what the white plays, but yes, most openings involving ...g5 played early are horrible too. wink.png

I think the worst opening Is the birds opening because it opens up your king

A2208

Okay a lot of sacrifices but it attracts pieces to the wrong spots

Fools mate is the worst opening

besides something like allowing a fool's mate, I think the worst named opening is probably Barnes' opening, 1.f3. It's like a bird opening without the benifit of controlling the center, and with the added disadvantage of blocking your king's knight's most natural square

It's actually called Damiano's defence :p

My personal top 3 worst chess openings:

3. The Franco-Hiva Gambit 1. e4 e6 2. d4 f5?! 3. exf5 Nf6? 4. fxe6 Bd6? which is just awful for Black. Black doesn't get too much for the two pawns after 5. exd7+, and 5. Bc4! is likely even better, simply completing development, keeping an extra pawn and saddling Black with nasty weaknesses on e5 and e6 in the event of ... dxe6 (which is almost forced.)

2. The Jerome Gambit in the Italian (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. Bxf7+??) which is completely refuted by not one, but two brain-dead simple lines. 4... Kxf7 5. Nxe5+ Nxe5 6. Qh5+ and now both 6... Ke6 and 6... Kf8 refute the gambit, although 6... Ke6 requires some homework.

1. The Fred 1. e4 f5?? 2. exf5 Kf7?? This is just complete garbage, and the reason I put it below the Jerome Gambit which might actually be objectively worse is that the Jerome Gambit at least makes sense and practically, you could expect to snag an occasional point or two off of an unprepared opponent who plays 6... Ke6. But the Fred is just garbage. Black sacrifices two pawns and puts his King in the open after 3. Qh5+ g6 4. fxg6+ Kg7 5. gxh7+ Rxh7 for no reason other than that he can and that it's stupid and ridiculous and maybe somehow White will waste enough time with his queen to allow Black to complete development. There is no real refutation to the Fred, because the Fred refutes itself. The simplest way to win: 6. Qd1! followed by normal development.

Also, keep in mind that these in my opinion are the 3 worst actual openings in chess. If it has a name and isn't something stupid like Fool's Mate, then it counts.

King's Gambit is the worse opening.

Nic_Olas

Not a fan of the Philidor. Not too happy to see it when I want to play a scotch or a Ruy Lopez.

oof_ow

The worst opening by statistical analysis and by far is White attempting to play the Dutch as black.

The Kings gambit is a great opening.
lutak22
Adibhan played Magnus Carlsen to a draw with white pieces with the kings gambit not long ago .. so unless you disagree with super gms, Kings gambit is great.
