Wow, weird position

It's a checkmate situation

blundering a rook on time

Playing a game where you were losing badly, fighting your way back even again only to blunder the game away at the end.

Fighting my way through the middle game to a tense ending with mate threats on both sides, my opponent set a trap which I spotted at the last second, I went to move a piece to safety and the touchpad on my laptop registered a move I hadn't intended - leaving me checkmate next move.

I like the 'Submit' button on the iPhone app - stops me making that sort of inadverdent error.

Timeout after having requesting an agreed time limit. <---- Poor organization, carelessness, poor focus, disrespectful, waste of time. Something so easily avoided.

I think the worst way to lose is when an enemy bishop is way over in the other corner and I get checkmated because I didn't see it sitting there blocking a square that I thought I could move my king to.

worst way to lose it moving into a statelate in a game you are winning.  I just had this happen to me and there's nothing worse.  I had a queen two rooks, two bishops and my dumbass moved right into a stalemate.  The good thing is that I was so pissed that I crushed my next two opponents.

CoenJones

YES!!! it isn't quite losing, but it does suck

Great way to take your anger out.

When there's a sniper on the roof of the other building setting his sights on you... you go to move your king... and blam!  Shoots off the tip of your thumb.  The king falls over and your opponent claims with by forfeit.

stormrunner07

Yep that is the worst way lol

I like to take my anger out on the clock.

Here is the worst way to lose. You are winning the game, and then one move before checkmate, your opponent decides to let their clock run down. Then, assuming this is an online game, a bit before your opponents clock will get to zero, your internet goes down and you lose the game by abandonnment

itsaspy

I hate when opponent blunders their queen but because it's so unusual my mind just doesn't even consider that the queen could be taken so I just move defensively, then after completing my move I immediately realise the Queen could have been taken

The worst way to lose at chess is to scribble on your score sheet, be warned, and then scribble on the carbon copy as a wise guy, saying the carbon is HIS copy, and forfeiting!
