What is this common mating pattern?  Morphy's, or something?  I was sad that my opponent didn't let me play it out, because I don't think I've ever done so in a real game.

Yeah, I think it's called Morphy's mate.

That might be a useful topic if it isn't on chess.com somewhere already.  All the named mates.

Perhaps, but searching through all of those topics or where else they might be is much less inefficent.
