What is with people not giving rematches?

I like declining rematches because it upsets people like you.

Other reasons are I don't want to play a weak player twice in a row

or why rematch someone who played on in a hopelessly lost game?

Why let them repeat their nonsense approach?

I'll rarely give a rematch, if the person gave me a really good game, regardless of the result I'll offer it.

I will almost always accept the first rematch request.

It's interesting that you think that accepting rematches is a moral obligation, or that declining rematches is insulting. Do you think this idea is from your culture, or is it specific to you personally? Is the basic concept just "One has an obligation to accept challenges", or is there a more fundamental concept in your from which you derived this idea? If it's the latter, it's possible you might not have consciously recognised this concept, or that you don't realise that this concept isn't part of the thought process of others.

jetfighter, that's how I do it too

The fundamental concept behind the idea that it is rude to decline a rematch request is...'No rematch' upsets their sense of entitlement and self importance

You're my perfect guinea pig.

So, you played "one" game against this opponent and they flunked the position.

What makes you so sure it won't happen to you the next time round?

The old saying 'never give a sucker an even break'. I flunk many positions and simply move on to my  next hapless victim.

LOL

That's so funny I hope it appears in a xmas cracker.

You're a fraud who will never be able to defend their name. There's a saying "Fight or Flight". There's no doubt what my money's on to describe you .

Your talking nonsense. You think its rude to refuse rematch requests.

I enjoy fighting and then taking flight.

Why get on your uppity high horse because someone says no to a rematch.

There are much bigger issues in life  to worry about.

You need to get a sense of proportion on the issue of rematch requests

Personally I ask for a rematch if I feel I could have won or lost a won game and I strongly believe that I can win given another chance. I don't bother to ask if I was clearly outplayed and I know I'm not on the same level. Most of the time I decline a rematch for lack of time, since I play for no more than 10 mins. If I request a rematch and was declined, I simply assume that the other person has got the same reasons as mine.

Why do you think that people declining rematches are doing it because they're afraid? Someone that afraid of losing wouldn't play in the first place.

This is why I decline rematches right here...rematches are usually requested by someone who is all bent out of shape about losing and assumes they will win the second time around...and feels entitled to a rematch opportunity.

It's a lose-lose scenario.  If I beat you a second time, then you get even more belligerent...if you win, then you get all puffed up over nothing ;)...

When you're young everything still has a lot of meaning for you - your opponent, the game, feelings, etiquette, etc.

Remember there are alot of older people here in their 40s, 50s and older, all that stuff just rolls off their back.  They're not gonna bother with your feelings of rematch etiquette.

I, for one, decline/accept a rematch request based on whether I feel like it or not in the moment. The opponent's feelings doesn't matter in my decision making.

Totally agree.

Topics such as this one deserve a good trolling!

Raspberry_Yoghurt

I never give rematches if I win or loose. I'd rather play someone new every time. Prefer to try a new style each time.

TheronG12

I usually rematch if the opponent wants to, but I don't understand why people care so much. How hard is it to play someone else? As long as you can play someone at approximately your level, who cares what their username is?

Tapani

There is little to win by granting a rematch.

If I lost the first game -- I might be having a bad day, be up against a better opponent or even a cheater. So in this case, no reason for a rematch.

If I win the first game -- my opponent should not want a rematch (according to above). While I think am more likely to win, unfortunately empirical observations indicates that people who lose the first game are more likely to cheat with an engine in the rematch.

(Yes, I can still grant a rematch if I enjoyed a game, but generally - no rematches)

tigerembalmer

of course I'll grant rematches- I'm not IBM

That's similar to how I look at it. The rematch thing is all about ego-soothing.  I have no desire to stroke some stranger's inflated ego.

Omega_Doom

Agreed with batgirl. Usually the "loser" has an advantage because he/she is willing to play the best game and a "winner" is complacent. So in my opinion it's not fair. Usually i'm losing the remaches because of this. It's just psychology.

uh-ohh

I think there should be an auto rematch decline setting available... Seriously!
