Interviewer: Benjamin, that was quite the game. But that opening move by Samuel, 1. a3, it’s not something we see every day. What’s your take on that?

Benjamin “The Tactician” Finegold: Oh, absolutely. When he played 1. a3, I thought maybe he was trying to invent a new game. Chess 2.0, perhaps? I mean, I’ve seen some odd openings in my time, but that’s usually from kids who’ve had too much sugar before their chess lessons.

Interviewer: And yet, that move set the tone for the rest of the game. How did you adapt?

Benjamin: Adapt? I was too busy trying not to laugh! But seriously, it threw me off my game. I’m used to classical positions, not… whatever that was. I guess you could say I was ‘a3-mazed’.

Interviewer: Moving on to the middle game, Samuel’s aggressive play seemed to catch you off guard.

Benjamin: Off guard? More like in a parallel universe. When he pushed 19. g4, I thought, ‘Well, there goes the neighborhood.’ It’s like he was playing speed chess while I was stuck in a slow-motion replay.

Interviewer: Samuel managed to clinch the game with a checkmate that no one saw coming.

Benjamin: No one except him, apparently. I mean, I saw it coming… right after he made the move. It’s like being at a surprise party for yourself where you’re the last one to know. ‘Surprise, you’re checkmated!’ Great party, really.

Interviewer: Any final thoughts on the match?

Benjamin: Just that I’ll be checking under my bed for rogue pawns tonight. And maybe I’ll start my next game with 1. h3, just to keep things interesting. Who knows? It might just be the next big thing.
