I have a question: what is everyone’s favorite opening and why?

tell me below

London. Just gives you such a solid position and you can play it against almost anything. For Black, I’m still trying to find a good one but the Sicilian dragon and caro are two that I’ve tried and they’ve pretty good.

Queen's gambit (for no reason) and Ponziani (also for no reason)

Najdorf. Just it’s fun to study the theory

Big Vienna fan here - I know it doesn’t stand up at the highest level, but anywhere under about 2000 it often gives great positions in under ten moves (especially the Vienna gambit!) it’s incredible how many 1600+ players still fall for the simple moves. Happy to discuss at length with anyone!

I like the wayward Queen because of the options she gives me. 👑

I will discuss Vienna; tell me more!

whiteQueen4black

How does the Vienna work?

PeteIsMyDoge

oh no. no disrespect but the wayward queen is my least favorite opening. Its just so scummy and forces black to play developing moves and kick your queen around, which any player above 800 or so knows because we've all gone through the pain of playing against it. The worst part is I still fall for it and if you really know what your doing you can win games easily.

Well maybe that’s why I’m a sub 500 player!

Queen's gambits and Ponzianis are amazing openings.

Personally, Queen's Gambit (white d4), King's Indian (black d4), Italian Game (both sides e4), otherwise just e4 and/or d4

Just because

But why

1. e4

It gets me to a playable middle game.

As black, the French defense.

Why? I’m not sure. I just picked it and stuck with it when I was getting started with chess. It seemed to take me longer to lose against much better opponents.
