I hate all openings equally, except the From's Gambit, which I hate even more.
The solution to your From problem is 1.d4! when unlike with 1.f4,e5 1.d4,e5? is unsound. In one variation the game will take on more of a king pawn game flavor but where black can't castle for some time and has obvious weaknesses.
Besides, 1.d4 accomplishes what 1.f4 does but helps develop pieces and doesn't weaken the kingside. The only advantage to 1.f4 is black can't bop at the d-pawn with ...c5! eventually, but this doesn't make up for 1.d4's strengths. 1.d4 is one of the optimal moves whereas 1.f4 is suboptimal but still playable.

I know this is really late but if you play e4, Ruy Lopez and Italian are some nice options, maybe Scotch Gambit if you want something unique.
And to respond to d4, Nimzo is a nice option while for e4, c5,e5,e6 are all good.
with white: Kings Gambit and I really like to play against Pirc
with black: classical Dutch
