Thats so true...chess is a misterious game despite its the most porpular game played in the world
Wo die Worte enden, beginnt das eigentliche Schachspiel for itself, with its own and special character. Only who plays this game understands what I mean. Peter Fläschner, Hamburg, Remis in 66 Zügen gegen den Vizeweltmeister Tigran Petrosjan in Hamburg 1970, Simultanpartie. -
The definition of what chess is, depends on why you play. Probably most people don't know why they play, and most probably just feel it...compelled. Its like bike-riding. What does bike-riding mean? Depends on why you ride the bike. For transportation? For fun? For X games (competition/adrenaline/skill)? For me: I say chess is a form of Masochism...painful and blissful at the same time; and therefore, similar to other skills that require blood, sweat, and tears...and I think its an interesting psychological event that compells a person to surrender to the training/activity itself...like Bruce Lee said, "indifferent to life or death; winning or losing", getting into that twilight zone...Zazen... Chess is mental kung fu.
"Wo die Worte enden, beginnt das eigentliche Schachspiel" (from the Candellight quote above)...translation: Where the words end, the real chess begins...
