Funny to see how a lot of people learned chess from their granddad. Eight seems to be an age that keps popping up. Or do I only notice that because this was the age my granddad taught me? Also in many stories there is the ambition to beat the one who introduced the commenter to the game. Also a few army stories and some from lonely places where one has a lot of time to spend. I like the stories very much. Cheers to you all.

If you stumble upon this topic please leave us your story. Remember that most of the games played here are against humans. They may be thousands of miles away. It is easy to feel like you are playing the computer but on the other side is a human. We all live and die here together on this tiny planet. Different races, cultures, beliefs, but all humans. Life is short, enjoy your chess games, love your fellow human beings.

An update for me. I've moved to Florida. I'll be a floor TD at the upcoming K-12 Nationals in Orlando. I play some at a nearby club. I love the game and being involved with it. I'm enjoying the live coverage of the world championship. Probably not a lot of time left for me, but chess will be with me until the end.

Merry Christmas my fellow chess players.

Merry Christmas to everyone! Technology and Chess have a long history together. Let's don't forget the human side of the game. If you want to know how to use tech to improve your game check out my blog. I moved it from Wordpress to Blogger. Easier and cheaper. https://www.chesstech.info/

getting into trouble at school was a regular thing , I usually got detention , on one of those my maths teacher was in charge , generally we would have to do "lines" like bart simpson , but that day my maths teacher said ,"im going to try and teach you something"

so he showed us how to play chess , im pretty sure he allowed me to win but if he did it worked , as I fell in love wqith the game realising here was as near to a level playing field as id come across , giving me the opportunity to go toe to toe with someone older bigger and even stronger physically to me

what have I been doing since in chess , plodding along if truth be told , ive been otb captain a few times but don't otb as much now , my chess is mainly here and ive taken on a few admin roles , which I guess adds to the site and the game but ive never won any titles and my best placing is only third ,plodding on lol ,but thanks to my maths teacher for introducing me to what is one of my lifetime passions
