What Kind Of Chess Channel Would You Like To See?

Sort:
schttrj

I have two questions. What kind of chess channel attracts you more on YouTube? And would you mind if it was not by a highly rated player but a chess enthusiast? I study chess and I am thinking of building one. So that it helps others too. Just asking.

NOTE: If you have got any further suggestion, do let me know.

just keep in mind----

"The Backyard Professer- DON'T be that guy".  the combination of a clear lack of skill and a slick and backwards sense of ego (arrogance?) is very bad.  I don't know where you stand on chess skill (and I don't really care), but be humble-even if you try to be instructive...

Los Angeles Laker girls playing blitz chess topless during halftime of Laker games.  I would prefer that to the usual game analysis.

That was part of the attraction to me I thought it was more entertaining than all of these other boring chess videos by titled players.

I hope he makes a comeback.

Ha!

ok

so you like the fact that he was tactically blind and played chess at a very LOW level; but acted like he played at a very high level and had extraordinary insight for average chess players...

isn't this the very definition of a Con-Man/ Fraud?

would you go to a doctor that had no medical school experience?  would you fly a plane piloted by a guy how knows how to turn the auto-pilot on- but never flew a plan??  would you see a dentist that has never pulled out a tooth???

thegreat_patzer

I begrudgingly agree with you

----------------------------

if the goal, then, is to become the BYP-II. I wish you luck.  but I will never routinely watch a channel like that. sorry.

competence (first) OR humility (at least) is important to me.  I speak more than I should, but I vow to always know my lowly place in the chess world.

....

Keep in mind at least one of the "boring" chess Master has my absolute adulation anyways. and I doubt that a 1200 USCF could possibly be more instructive or useful than John Bartholomew

I want to point out, that I was in no wise insulting the OP.

I could imagine even a 1200 being fairly instructive to someone quite new to chess.   you don't need to be a GM god- to give a lot of good advise.  I just see the BYP as a great example of what to avoid. and I can 't be persuaded off that mark.

In general, people do things to learn something new or to have a good time.  It’s the twin E’s, education and entertainment.  You thus want to do one of these.  In a perfect world you do both, but that’s not so easy at first.  Start with a clear goal, of educational quality or just pure fun goofery, and then work from there.

As for what not to do, I strongly suggest not trying to be one of those clickbait channels.  You know, “These 5 Openings Absolutely DESTROY GMs (and number 4 will SHOCK you!)”.  It’s hollow, it’s empty, and though you might get more views to start, you’ll get little to none returning viewers and just worsen your reputation.

Don’t cut corners.  Make something worth watching.  I firmly believe if you put forth a quality product, be it educational or entertainment or both, you’ll eventually succeed.

Would you elect as president... well... never mind, that one actually happened.

Sort of the same thing. As long as you're enthusiastic and sound like you know what you're doing, people will like it (as long as they don't know any better).

So for the OP that's something useful you can try to copy from BYP, his enthusiasm.

Why do you have to bring up the election of 2008 for?

Why do you have to bring up the election of 2008 for?

Former senator and professor of constitutional law vs casino owner and reality TV star. Lets not make ridiculous comparisons please.

This is from 2008:

Commenting on the fact that Sen. Barack Obama has now secured his party’s presidential nomination, Vision America President Dr. Rick Scarborough observed: “We don’t know a lot about Sen. Obama’s plans for America. On the campaign trail, he has mostly spoken in generalities. What we do know is that, if elected, he would be the least experienced man to occupy the White House in at least the last 100 years. We also know that by every conceivable measure, the charismatic Senator is a dyed-in-the-wool liberal.”

Scarborough noted: “Obama has held national office a little over 3 years. Before that, he was taking calls from constituents to fix potholes in his Illinois Senate district.”

Every other occupant of the White House had far more experience, prior to being elected to the nation’s highest office. Scarborough: “Ronald Reagan had been governor of California for 8 years when he ran for president in 1980. Bill Clinton was a three-term governor of Arkansas. Jimmy Carter was an ex-Georgia governor. Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford — compared to any of these men when they sought the presidency, Obama is a political neophyte.

Scarborough further noted: “Except for Bill Clinton, all of these commanders-in-chief had served in the armed forces. Obama never wore his country’s uniform.”

Scarborough continued: “Senator Obama is even inexperienced compared to the lady he defeated for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. She’s served in the Senate twice as long as he – a fact recognized by Democratic primary voters. Although Obama has a majority of delegates, Clinton won the Democratic primary in every large state, without exception – California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and, of course, New York.”

Besides his breathtaking lack of experience, Obama is distinguished primarily by his inveterate liberalism. Scarborough: “The National Journal rated Sen. Obama the most liberal member of the United States Senate in 2007 – more liberal than Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton or Ted Kennedy. I can’t think of a single issue – foreign or domestic – where Obama deviates one iota from the leftwing of his party.”

If you read thegreat_patzer's post, he's talking about trusting a pilot who never flew, or a dentist who never pulled a tooth. There is only one US president who fits with into this analogy, and it's very obvoius who it is.

I also remember talk about how Obama was an out of touch, elite, liberal, east coast millionaire.
Trump has him beat there too, as an even more out of touch, even more elite, even more liberal (in the past), New York, born a millionaire.

He was talking about lack of experience.   A President has to have executive leadership experience.  And being a "Community Organizer" doesn't count.  So there you go.

And fwiw, I didn't vote for either one.

Trump 2020!

BeepBeepImA747
Bernie should've won.
BeepBeepImA747
If the democrats didn't pick Hillary, Trump would've never been president.

maybe, a narration from annotated games from various sources? , e.g.

a. 500 Master Games

b. Alekhines Best Games

(seen some analyzing games using articles and books on selected games)

thegreat_patzer

Any master game would be interesting. Lofina.  but you've simply GOT to address the elephant in the room (as it is)--

which is the fact that you have a horribly weak chess player trying to understand WHY a very strong chess player made the moves they did.  there's a high likelihood everything they could say would be wrong.

... unless they use the software. which is ok, except then...

they have No idea WHY?  and that is basically not instructive

this is IMHO the core issue with someone who is basically very weak making a channel.
