What Means, You are Reshaping Your Mind?

I've heard quoted by some GMs or experts, that when you learn and play chess, you are 'reshaping your mind'.   What do they mean by that?  

Perhaps they mean that chess will enlighten the way you use your mind.

I should have added, they weren't saying that in a flattering way; it was meant in a bit of a negative way. . . mostly talking about Bobby Fischer, Morphy, Steinitz. . . anyone else that might 'go around the bend' or 'over the edge'.  

agreed,, yes, I think chess can consume a person,, but there are worse things i suppose!

Ahhh, forget it, I think I'll go have a bourbon/ginger ale and watch the Cubs.
