What rating do titled players start taking you seriously?

Hey all! Yesterday, I hit 1800 for the first time in my chess journey. Up to this point, I have had the pleasure of playing three different titled players (I lost them all!). That was at blitz, and I could tell that they (rightly) didn’t have any concerns that I’d be able to win.

I know titled players are leaps and bounds beyond the rest of us in general, but there is always room for upsets. I’m sure every intermediate player has that nightmare story where they somehow lost to an 1000…

So my question is simple, what rough rating do we have to attain for a titled player to actually have to work for a win?

I’m aware this will also vary on the level of titled player, but thought it’d be interesting to ask. If any titled players are reading, let us know what it is for you!

@myratingis1523isback - yes, they’re all real! Some of the CMs, though, will have got their title from like u10 tournaments and then not improved as much so there will be some irregularities

Not too many of the top players on here play rapid regularly or anything beyond 10-15 min games due to increased risk of cheating. So it is hard to say what rating threshold for Rapid is needed for them to take you seriously. But if I had to guess, I would have to say about 2200 Rapid on here is needed as the Rapid ratings somewhat correlate with OTB ratings.

However, if you mean online blitz rating, I'd say that once you get around the mid-2500s blitz on here is when it becomes likely to encounter a titled player in a random game search and that they'll have to work for a win.

Who gives a f*** whether "titled players" take you seriously or not...

I recall standing next to a GM at urinal once and said to him, "I never knew GMs needed to p***." He replied, "We've been known to have a s*** from time to time as well..."
