This discussion kind of reminds me of the "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" question: What is Quality??? Is there really any right answer?

I totally agree with you. Being good is only about getting better-Its all up to you! When you reach a goal, why stop there?

isabela14

i was "Good" when I made 500

i was "Better" at 1000

i was "Superb" when I reached 1500!

soon I will be world champion....

Ratings are just a figment of your imagination of how good your are.

2000? ooh

2000+ is very good, we all know that

I'm afraid not.

I'm 2000+, both OTB and online... and I totally suck at chess.

Strangemover

2000+ The good, 1000-2000 The bad, 0-1000 The ugly.

seiriously??? 2700 crush 2100s, do good people crush good people 10 - 0 ???

Strangemover

By referencing 3 categories of player 'the good', 'the bad' and 'the ugly' and assigning arbitrary ratings to them it should be pretty obvious that my comment was deadly serious...

2800+ - A few good men.

phyrru

could you please be serious??? 2800+ is the best of the best!!!

If you are competing in a tournament where everyone is like rated 600, and your rating is 1000, youre like a super GM in the tournament!

No rating is considered "good" as long u try ur best

100 is pretty good if compared with 0

It used to be that 1800 was the benchmark to being a "good" player. However,1600 ,1700, is quite respectable.

torrubirubi

minus 100, this is really not good.

being 1600 is better than like 99% of the world population and in the top 20% of all chess players that have gone to a tournament.

ActuallySleepy
1500 blitz is apparently in the 90 percentile

duh

1500 is really good actually!

I would say 1200 is good if we take into consideration all chess players of the world including casual players and people who have played chess at least once in last few years.

1500 is good for semi-serious chess players.

1800 is good for serious chess players.

2400 is the starting point of professional chess.
