Here is something from my college days. [see my photo from when I was a college freshman]

First, I invented an "Olympics" for my fraternity to have fun and events with the local sororities.  [I know this has probably been done before]

But then there was a special event which was my invention. It was called the fish swatting event.  We bought some large frozen fish from the grocery store and let the fish thaw.  Then there were 14 fraternity brothers who had an egg tied to the top of their heads.  This was done by using a nylon stocking and the stocking would go from under the chin to the top of the head with the egg firmly in place.

Then a sorority girl would ride piggy back on each contestant. She would hold the large thawed fish and would try to swat the eggs off the heads of the other contestants.  When this worked the egg would smash all over the top of the head of the loser and dribble down unto his face.

14 guys each with a girl piggy back running around in an arena.  I was the last man standing!  All the other 13 had their eggs smashed.  This was a very grueling contest as it lasted about 15-20 minutes and you had to run around with a girl piggy back.

post note the girl became my girl friend and we were "lavaleered" which means engaged to be engaged to be married.  One time, however she stopped contacting me.  It turned out she had gone home on Christmas recess and had gotten back together with her old boyfriend.  [she could have at least told me]

This doesn't sound like an acheivement.  Managing to excuse yourself from such a circus would have been an acheivement.

Finishing a blitz-tournament with 4 other guys (from totally 60 partipicans) after 48 hours of chess (each 2 hours a new round in new groups) without any sleep, reaching the third rank. Started friday at 12 o'clock to sunday 12 o'clock.

TheGrobe It was my idea in the first place and it turned out to be lots of fun.  College can be different than "normality"

A few months ago I came in first place in a 648 player duplicate bridge tournament. I have won many duplicate bridge tournaments but this was the largest.  [on line tournament] I played with a robot.

Also a few days ago I took $72 off a recent World Junior Champion in duplicate bridge.  He is a world class player.  [playing money bridge]

Bah!

Sounds awesome. (Except for the part about getting dumped.  But as the saying goes, better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.)

Let's see.  Young men and women.  Close physical contact.  Not taking anything too seriously, but playing intensely anyway.  No money involved, but opportunities for romantic contact.

It is kind of the polar opposite of Chess, isn't it?

ponz111

Yes, opposite of chess.  and really fun at the time.

I just thought of something, not a record, but how many chess.com members have played OTB games against more National Champions than I did? (some "official" games, but most blitz games for fun).

I have 7:

All ex SA champions: Albert Ponelis, Clyde Wolpe, Mark Rubery, David Gluckman, Watu Kobese, Ronnie van Tonder, Mark Levitt.

I even managed to take a few of Mark Levitt, but we must have played a couple of hundred :)

ponz111

What is a SA champion?

My neurologist sat me and my wife down in a vacant room in 2001 and told meI had a disease and would be deceased in 2 years. So, I hold a record of still being alive one decade after I was supposed to die.

Yesterday I was the best U-1600 in the XVI Benfica Open (Placed 34 out of 108 players, there were 2 GMs, 14 Masters, 1 WCM).

It was a 20/0 valid for the rapids elo. It was my first Fide rated tournament so I started with a provisional rating of 1500.

I made 5/9 against an average opposition of 1913. My performance rating was 1956.

My 3 losses were against 2 NMs and a 1915.

The winner was GM Kevin Spraguett.

Perhaps you should've been playing stronger opponents?

I was assigned opponents and had no choice who I played. However I do not know of any master who could win that many games in a row playing simultaneous chess against groups of kids ranging from 7 to 13. The person would be exhausted after the first 100 games or so.

Socialista  Great Start to your over the board rated experiences!

Yesterday I took money from a recent World Junior [under 21] Bridge Champion playing Money Bridge. [he is a world class player]

So now, maybe I could say not only have I beat national champions [USA]  and three players who are Grandmasters and beat someone who has won from Fischer maybe I can say I beat a world champ? [although junior World Champ]

ViktorHNielsen

Tied for first place in a 7 round robin with 10 people, where I was seeded as nr. 10. In first round I had to play the highest-rated with black. He was outplayed after 28 moves.

rooperi

how can you have a 7 round round robin with 10 players? That should be 9 rounds...

Ziryab

If the top three players are banned after the first round, the event should conclude in seven rounds.

Thanks Fonz!

Today I played my second fide rated tournament (valid for blitz elo), it was the blitz teams national  championship.

I won against a NM in the first round (I just knew that he was a master and his rating some minutes ago by watching at chessresults).

I got 4+ 3- 0= against an average opposition of 2142.
