what to do about opponents like this

Sort:
RIP-Kobe-Bryant

in turn based, daily chess, this guy purposely waits until his clock is about to run out to finally make a move and these games are 3 days per move

and now hes turned on vacation time when he is still logging on day by day to play other games

i am usually a patient person but this is some BS  tbh

what to do? can administration step in?

Tactical_Knightmare

Dont sweat it, I ran into the same thing, a 3 day game turned into a 14 day game because of all the vacation time being taken. Got another chap, who though clearly lost wont resign and is doing the same thing, I just look at it as limbo winning games and keep playing others. Money cant buy you taste, common sense or class. It is what it is.

Any rules being broken chaps?

Yes, sad but true. Finish the game and don't play him again.

jonnin

oh, there are things you can do :)

if the game is a team match, you can report him to the leaders of his group(s) to get him kicked from ethical groups.   You can also put in a few words on the team match page --- something backhanded like "sorry for the holdup with our match but my opponent is on permanent vacation"

but as for making the game progress, not a thing can be done.  Just ignore it until it pops up as your turn.

I am not sure what he is doing wrong. He has three days to make his move, so he is taking three days to make his move.

zborg

Start a thread and go in circles.  Happens almost every day on this site.

TurboFish

Nothing to complain about since no rules were broken.

Human beans sure do like to fuss about imaginary problems.

marcosite

Do it back OP.  It's surprisingly satisfying.  It won't help you win but you'll feel more in control.  Innocent

This is life at chess.com. There's nothing you can do about it. He's a cad, a creep, a lowlife, a reprobate, a knave, scoundrel, and weasel. Yet he's not broken the rules. As someone else said, finish the game and block him.

Because he uses his alloted time to make his move, he is all of these things?

General-Mayhem

Maybe he's just bored with the game!

Kaynight is right. There are no rules being broken. He has 3 days to make a move and he is well within his rights to use every minute. I will admit that most people will take less time but they are entitled to take the three days. If you dont like it then from now on just play shorter time controles. Useually I only play 24 hour games for this reason but I do play a few 3 day games. If an opponent takes 3 days to make a move then he is entitle to, there is nothing you can do about it and that includes making a thread to complain about it. My advice is to just play 24 hour games and stop complaining about nothing!!!

Think this is bad? I'm playing in a tournament, 3 days per move. Round two is one game away from being over. The game that never ends is a meaningless game between the lead player of a group who is moving on to round 3, and a 4th place player that is not. This will not change no matter the outcome of the game. Each player is taking almost the entire 3 days per move in this meaningless contest. And that's fine I suppose. It would be nice if they simply agreed to a draw and allowed the tournament to continue. But I don't begrudge them if they wish to play it out. The worst though is the player that leads his group and is moving on took apx. 3 weeks of vacation, then resumed playing as slowly as possible. I finished my games in MAY. Everyone else was done by June. Is what it is.... but man I wish they would finish up!

Jimmykay

Actually just play blitz. Most people who play turn-based chess here treat it like they are playing a blitz simul.

Some people are playing the wrong game if they have issues with time... Guess patience with cards is out the box.

Time is no big deal, but using Vacation Time to push a 3 day per move game into a 5+ day per move game, defeats the purpose of a 3 day game. That is the only gripe I have seen and had. I mean if they need 5 days to 14 days a move to play then they should look for games that are set up for sort of time and not create one with a 3 day game. Its rude.

Jenium

The answer is 5 0 Blitz.

But maybe he went on vacation with his kids and would rather play with his family than plan chess moves.

That is the idea behind vacation time.
