Such a general question without showing concrete position has a very little sense. Making a plan in a middlegame depends on king safety, piece activity, pawn structure and other stuff.

Ensure that all your pieces are on their best possible squares. Often, even in equal positions, there are ways to improve piece activity. Look for ways to reposition your pieces to more aggressive squares or to exert more control over key squares.
