King's Indian Defence is risky for black.
Budapest Gambit is borderline unsound.
Grünfeld has much theory and cedes the center.
Just 1 d4 d5 is simplest and probably best. Queen's Gambit Declined, Queen's Gambit Accepted, Slav Defence.

Yeah maybe the slow slav where you put your light squared bishop out because I really would give away a tempo for an active bishop

When people played d4, I used to play the king’s indian but it always seemed as too solid/passive. I recently tried The Budapest Gambit but the initiative is gone if your opponent plays 4-5 good moves. Is there an opening for black against d4 that still gives me the control for the center and doesn’t require too much study? (Doesn’t have like 5-6 main lines with all having 3 separate lines for example)
