What players have had the longest history? I'm simply curious.

Just to clarify, I am mostly wanting to know master and OTB games, though chess.com games may also be interesting.

Kasparov and Karpov played a ridiculous number of World Chess Championship title-match games... 144 title games in five WCC matches.

The record is probably by some pair we've never heard of, and probably numbers in the tens of thousands if not over 100 thousand.

But FIDE rated games would be different, because even pros only play a few events a year.

Well. The person does not have to be a pro to have more games. I know a 1400 who has played 251 tournaments in 6 years.

Not saying he has the most games though.

@Macer75 and Computer 1-EASY

I believe it was two Germans who played throughout the 1940’s until one died.

That's true. Some people play in a tournament nearly every weekend.

 Garry Kasparov beat Anatoly Karpov 28 to 21, with 121 draws (only classical games), so we have a total of 170 games. I don´t think any others top players have faced each other more.

Here I've played 378 vs. @MSC157, with a result much better than expected: 62W 219L 97D

saber_abeey01

idk, though me and my friend @winneralways236 have played 2506 games

Idk, on the world professional level, Victor Kroichnoi would probably be a good guess.
