Yeah, maybe it's time to pack it all up.
Time to Quit Playing....

Yeah, maybe it's time to pack it all up.
Didn't mean I'd stop playing online entirely.. But screw paying 20 bucks a month for it. What am I getting for that money?
I'll break it down for you.
Puzzles - I can get it with an opensource engine download or another website
Lessons - Same ones that have been on here for almost ~10 years now, can also get Chessable without a 17$ subscription.
Bots - Again Stockfish, tuned to the rating you want to play.
Play Coach - Right... enough said
No Ads - Doesn't bother me.
Oooh.. Game Review... Save your PNGs keep em on your computer, analyze with stockfish.I
Insights- Seems like a good Idea, could be great, but, it seems like it's just a "Ghee Whiz" gimmic in it's current form.
Why am I posting? Because some part of me believes they may actually take feedback on their website. I'd be willing to pay MORE if they could prove the rating system is solid and actually show me where I'm having problems.

Chess.com taking feedback on its website? That doesn't seem right to me. In a few months, I'm sure it'll be $20 a month.
I wouldn't pay for a membership either. If you really do have a strong ambition to get better at chess, then a coach is your best bet. Prices can vary, of course, but you'll be better off in the hands of a high-rated player than overpaying for tools that are free almost everywhere else.

At one point I had hopes, they were going to run this site like League Of Legends and wipe the servers every so many cycles... Everyone's rating goes to zero, and there's only so many rating points period... It'd be way funner like that. Theres so many ideas they could try to make it better for checking to see how you progress, I just think they are set in what works to keep them "On Top". I still think f they deleted the report button the website would fall from popularity in a couple months from users being frustrated they don't have an outlet to bark at immediately.

Why are you paying $20/Month to play speed chess? You can do that for free on other sites. As for all of the other stuff. If all your games are predicated on moving fast, then why study? You're not giving yourself time to think about what you're learning and trying to implement that knowledge into games.
Thats why youre stuck. If all you want to do is play speed chess do it for free. All the other stuff, youre just throwing your money away.
This site is slowly losing ground... I hear all this talk about improvement, but to be honest, my ELO hasn't moved in or out of the range it started other than occasional blips of success since I started.
I think my lows from the start of this account are 900ish and I've fluctuate all the way up to almost 1400 on rare occasions, beating people that have been around 1600 on rare occasion. I've bought several books through the Cheesable side, I've had coaches who "see me improving". I beat most people in person (I'd say 3 out of 4 games). So don't get me wrong, I KNOW I'm getting more knowledgeable at chess. But, I mean my Insights haven't changed since I started... I beat the same grade bots 1600-1800 every month, I lose to the same 900-1240 ELO every game
But.. I definitely feel that I'm wasting my money at this point. It's time to ask why I pay for an account when I get the same information for free other places? Are the coaches doing anything for me? Is there a reason to deal with this place at all concerning a subscription or should it be what it really is? "Donations"
I wish they cared more about an actual progression system than they do. I'm sorry to sound so negative. I love this site and community, But...man...it's $17 a month I could be spending on an actual coach and chess club somewhere.
Guess I'll see if a Chess.com account is needed to be in an Over the Board club... (Never been in one before).
