What will chess be like in say a hundred years from now....

I think you will be able to play tournaments in your living room with virtual reality chess.

BISHOP_e3,

No way would anyone master that game.  It looks clever, and interesting, but it would end up shelved in an attic, pieces lost, or memory corrupted, never to see the light of day again.

How do I know?  I grew up in a large family, and we had everything — Monopoly, Parcheesi, Sorry, Checkers, Chess, R. Journet Dexterity Puzzles, Candyland, Concentration, The Match Game, Jeopardy, Labyrinth Spel, Password, and on and on.

Only Chess survived, although Labyrinth Spel is somewhere, in its original box. (I should look for that)

People don't want complexity beyond ability… they want to feel like they can conquer their life.

Chess, in its current form, holds true to that sort of notion, and its traditional qualities, familiar looking pieces, a familiar looking board, all help ensure its current setup and rules.

It "ain't" goin' anywhere.  The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Well, there you go… the Chess board and pieces of the future.

Of course!   happy.png  tongue.png  wink.png  wink.png  pin.png  pin.png  trophies.png  trophies.png  happy.png

Just because the letters are there doesn't mean you have to use them.

Or 52 pick up.

I remember the first time I played that game.

"What's 52 pick up?"

"Watch."

Cut the deck, then shuffle the cards AIMED UPWARDS!

In the future, chess will have a morphing factor where pieces can transform at a random point but you don’t know when and which piece will morph or maybe played by VR like the chess game on the Sony PS4 where you play the Grim Reaper across the board.

In 100 years, we have moved in the third dimensional for 8x8 chess. Or replaced 8x8 chess by 10x8.

Black will win every time because they have the high ground!

White will be given sharks with lasers to compensate for the high ground.
