Too much wine perhaps?  What about people around them?  No one could tell them?

What's more funny it's says that they play everyday! So are they always playing drunk or something?

So do you all think it's normal no one shocked that they play LIKE THAT EVERYDAY! ? No one even surprised?

I am not going to read that whole novel article. I looked at the photos and saw nothing out of the ordinary. The photo with the guy locking the tables and chairs kind of surprised me. They don't take them inside? What if it rains on the wooden tables? It also looks like a chair is wooden too. With the metal chairs, wouldn't they rust?

But I didn't see anything bizarre as it relates to alcohol. Can you quote the part that causes such an uproar with you?

Good point about chairs and tables it kind of surprised me as well, besides getting it wet , no one steals them?  I would assume some one might damage or steal them , what about winter times when it's snow?

You don't need to read all of the article, that's why I specified drunk on wine ! Look at the bottom of the article find a picture both of them playing with wine on a table and look at the chess board very carefully ! Do you see what I see !? Apparently they've been playing like that every day and no one bother to tell them lol

How do you know how much wine they drank? They have a cup and maybe they are allowed to take the rest home or the guy on the right is waiting for the lady to drink enough so they can go to his place. If she said yes, would he care about the rest of the wine? The bottle looks like it is Koutoubia (Rouge?) which is about twenty two dollars and fifty cents (wow, they aren't letting me post the numbers). That's not a lot of money.

I am looking at the board and that indicates the whole picture is flipped since the letters are backwards. Also, it is turned 90 degrees. If you are implying they are drunk because of this, I find it amazing then that they could set up the board and hold a camera.

My theory still stands. Neither of them know how to play chess, and the guy just wants to impress her with the idea he knows chess and drinking wine instead of beer makes it look like he is a romantic guy. His pursuit is not to check mate, but rather mate (the) chick.

My point is the chess board set up wrong ,not the picture , they don't know the rule that white square must be always on a right when setting the chess board.

Only in the last pic... but yeah, that's embarrassing.

It's not even about knowing the rule... one time opponent and I began setting up a board the wrong way... we stopped because it looked weird and wrong... then we noticed... to not notice means you're pretty new / bad at the game.

What shocks me is not that that are knew and don't know the rule , but it states in an article that they play DAILY! ? I mean OK they are knew but of you play every single day can't you see something is wrong or learn?  OK fine they don't care they ate beginners etc.... WHAT ABOUT people around them !!!!???? I mean for God sake they ae playing like THAT everyday in a chess club - coffee not alone in their home ! And they still playing like that every single day ?  What's going on here?  In New York people don't help each other or something?

All this strawman attacking exposes people's inadequacies in life.

It's not a strawman, and it's legitimately a huge sign of being unskilled.

If there were a news article about some local guitar player, and in the picture the guy on stage with his guitar is like... missing a string, and it's out of tune, then of course people who have been playing for 20 years are going to mock them... because it's really really bad... if you're not good at anything in your life you probably wouldn't understand tongue.png

With guitar, the news-person could figure out by listening that the person on stage doesn't know how to play, but with chess they have no way of knowing... they'll literally take a picture of someone with a board set up incorrectly and put it in a story.

Heh, yeah, and look at the position, it's Qh4+ and the rook and pawn are still on h1,h2... or... ok when you rotate the board the colors become reversed, so this is actually Qa4+ with pawn and rook on a1,a2... I get the feeling they also set up the king and queen swapped so it makes even less sense.

You know, one time we set up a board like this, and I mentioned that instead of resetting things we could just let black move first (since black is set up in white's position) but the other guy said no that'd be too confusing for him.

Anyway that position is completely lost with a rook and pawn that haven't moved... meaning not only is white terrible, but black is terrible for not having won the game sooner.

Are I and Ice Cube the only 2 persons that find Beer to be, "Mentally Stimulating?"
